  • Homemade Effect Pedals

    For the starting guitarist, most of your setup will look like this:

    Guitar -> Amp

    I’m not complaining though. This is a great setup! Many great guitar players out there uses this no effect chain setup throughout their entire career! Now, take a look at this:

    Guitar -> Industrial Effects Pedals -> Amp

    95% of effects pedals minded players out there uses this setup. They buy a pedal, get excited about it, tweak it around for different sound and effects. But what happens should they realised that the pedal which they had just parted hundreds of dollars with isn’t just what they are looking for or is no longer required in their favourite effects chain? And now, SEE THIS:

    Guitar
    -> Homemade Effects Pedals -> Amp

    Understand the difference. Homemade effects pedals allows you to make unlimited changes you can only dream about with industrial effects pedals. Homemade effects pedals allows you to design your very own signature sound right from the very ground up. Homemade effects pedals provides you with the opportunity to sell your very own effects pedals to others, and hopefully making a living out of it and making a name for yourself in the world of guitar effects pedals. Homemade effects pedals are what some of the guitar greats have done. Most importantly, homemade effects pedals are fun and easy to build!

    I have been designing my vey own homemade effects pedals for the past 2 years and have discarded all my industrial pedals ever since! Now, my effects loop consists of strictly only homemade effects pedals. It have provided me with utmost satisfaction and I’m always on the lookout for new design ideas.

    For a complete beginner, I highly recommend purchasing "How to Build Your Own Effect Pedals". Personally, it’s a worthwhile investment for anyone who is interested in taking the first step in building homemade effect pedals. It covers everything from the tools required to the soldering process in an easy step by step guide complete with pictures and diagrams. There’s also lots of projects for you to embark on (e.g building a smooth overdrive pedal, building an aggressive distortion pedal, turn a tubescreamer into a distortion…).

    For people who are interested in modifying thier existing industrial effect pedals, there’s another book for it! I have bought one for myself and it’s fantastic! Inside, you can take almost any effect pedal (e.g Boss, Ibanez, DOD, Digitech…) and turn it around into something so different you can call it your very own homemade effect pedal!

    For the more advanced, there’s a third book which teaches you advanced techniques which takes you to a realm beyond your imagination. I have yet to buy this book as I’m having so much fun with the first 2 books! But I’m sure I will get to it once I’m through with it. So if you like, go to "How to Build Your Own Effect Pedal" for more infomation regarding the 3 books. To add, all the 3 books I mentioned above comes with videos too! It’s dirt cheap price for something so valuable!
